Google Will Build the Smart City of the Future in Canada
Sidewalk Labs, a subsidiary of Alphabet, is in preparation for building a smart city in a pilot district in Toronto, Canada.
Sidewalk Labs, Alphabet Inc., which Google also owns, will build a "city of your future" on the coast of Toronto. In the past few days, under the new project, Toronto and Sidewalk Labs will cooperate to transform the eastern coastline of the city into a high-tech city named "Quayside".
If you want to know what we mean by high technology here, let me tell you; high-speed ferries, unmanned buses and taxis, garbage collecting robots, season-dependent parks and futuristic breakthroughs such as the 196-page plan. The project, which was in concept by now, was enthusiastically received by Canada's charismatic Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In Trudeau's statement, "The technology to be built in Quayside is expected to increase the quality of city life. Houses will be cheaper, public transport may become more convenient, "he said.
Future Build
The prototype city will be built around a 3.5-kilometer area with a large undeveloped area, and will host technologies that Sidewalks Labs will try before replacing the whole world. Sidewalk, aiming at gathering information on vehicle traffic, pollution and infrastructure with countless sensors and cameras to be installed, has reacted to this issue at least. Although the company will observe the whole city, it will be on the agenda with privacy matters, but according to the statement made, the video recordings will not be followed and only the measurements will be followed.
Companies like Google, Apple, Facebook are working on technologies that will change the world cities. The cities that have begun to wonder under the name of urban transformation in the last years will themselves be woken up in the future to host driving-free vehicles.
